John W. Degnaro, Founder

John is a fourteen-year Veteran of the United States Air Force serving as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. He proudly served multiple combat tours, leading EOD teams in Iraq and Afghanistan.

During his last deployment he started drafting the plans for his post military career.  His passion for beer inspired him to take on the incredible challenge of starting a brewery, directing his skills in an all new direction… Founding Bombs Away Beer Company.

Through extensive research on his 1BBL home brew equipment, John immersed himself in the brewing process.  Developing a working knowledge of what a fully functioning brewery needed, while working within a very conservative budget, John set out to find his equipment.  He pieced together a unique brewhouse assembled from various food industries.  It all started with a truck load of stainless steel tanks once used for fruit storage – these became serving vessels.  Next up was a dairy tank destined to be the mash tun, followed by a square tote bound to become a hot liquor tank.  Add into the mix a collection of re-purposed equipment like a walk in freezer, glycol chiller from a frozen yogurt plant, and a few brite tanks.  John’s backyard was about full, and this equipment was ready for a greater purpose and a new home at 9801 Acoma Rd.

In 2017 he completed the brewery and opened the taproom, building a company that is a reflection of himself;  Passionate about beer and Proudly American.

Hilary Degnaro

Hilary is John’s wife and has been instrumental in assisting him through the design and build phase of the brewery. Through her creativity and ingenuity the taproom became the warm and welcoming place it is today. Hilary has a BBA and a MBA in marketing management and operations. As the brewery’s success progresses, she will be coordinating future events and community outreach programs.  She assists in the day-to-day operations and continues to help John’s dream become a reality.

David Kimbell, Head Brewer

David has worked with New Mexico’s best & largest breweries since starting his career in the industry. In his pursuit to start his own brewery, he found John, who not only shares his passion  for beer, but vision and integrity. His mission is to make Bombs Away Beer Company one of New Mexico’s best breweries and secure Albuquerque’s position as the best craft beer city in America.
